Best Tour I Have Ever Been On - My wife and I were in Cairo for a 19hour layover and Mahmoud made sure that we got the most out of our very brief stay. From the minute his... read more driver picked us up from the airport in the morning until the minute he dropped us off at night, Mahmoud made sure that the experience was fun, educational, and relaxed. He had a breadth of knowledge on everything we saw and was able to answer all of our questions.
He also made us feel comfortable and right at home from the moment we met. By the end of the day we were already making plans to bring the rest of our family back to Egypt to go on another tour with Mahmoud. The pre-planned itinerary made sure that we were able to see everything we would possibly need to see and even included getting us into a few areas that were typically not open to the public. However, he was also open to suggestions if we had anything specific of our own that we wanted to do.

Overall, it was an 11 out of 10. I cannot recommend this tour enough if you are looking to get the most out of your time in Egypt.

The BEST — Mahmoud brought dry and dusty to life in Cairo - Mahmoud was extremely knowledgeable — passionate — about Egyptian history. This was not surprising: we learned he is getting a Masters degree in the subject and so was able... read more to tell us about new room discoveries that had just been made in one of the pyramids that was not widely known. He was able to share his knowledge in an engaging way, had a great sense of humour, knew how to take the best pictures, and adapted very well to our group dynamic. There was no question that he could not answer and he set us small challenges: how do you think this was done, was this King alive or dead, etc. which we enjoyed. As well, he was very willing to have open discussions about anything, giving us what we felt were real insights into Egyptian life, world view, and the Quran. All logistics were smoothly managed, and he arranged for our driver Ahmed, who was excellent too. It is impossible to choose the best part of our two days of tours with Mahmoud as there were so many highlights in the Cairo/Egyptian Museum, the pyramids at Sakhara and Giza, Citadel, very very very good local restaurants both days and great restaurant tips for our dinners. We were so grateful for the opportunity at the end of the first day to have a cruise on the Nile in a fallouca [small sailboat], to cool down after a long day, and see the City from the water.

We were in Cairo for 4 days and booked a day and... read more a half-day tours combining a day trip to Alexandria, plus time at Pyramids and Sphinx tour in Giza. He was both knowledgeable being a student of Egyptology, and curious about other cultures and histories.

Mahmoud provided water and snacks enroute to our destinations, and stayed at our side throughout. In Alexandria, he led us through the catacombs, the Citadel complexes and the huge Library, plus lunched with us at a beautiful seafood restaurant along the river. The next morning we visited the Pyramids and Sphinx, plus a parchment business. Although not originally planned, he showed the advantages of having a private driver and guide by adding in a camel ride and a felucca ride on the Nile (we paid additional $ for these rides), thus making our last day in Cairo very special. He also introduced and treated us to a Egyptian dish Koshary, a popular and delicious Egyptian dish, at the famous Abou Tarek restaurant in downtown Cairo.. He offered his photographic services throughout the two days, picking the best spots for photos, resulting in more photos than I normally have taken of myself in a month. He is professional as a guide, taking care to make sure that his customers are satisfied.
